CUSTOM WORK

Brigid's Forge is happy to offer custom work to our buyers.  Our most common requests are below, but you may contact us directly concerning things you may not find here.

    IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER:
  • Time needed to complete your request will vary greatly depending on season.
  • E-mail or mail your request to our silversmith.
  • You will receive a price quote, a time estimate, and a quote number.
  • Send us an order, placing the quote number in the "Special instructions" box.
  • Work begins when your order arrives.

    COMMON REQUESTS

Can you put a stone on this piece?
Frequently we can add a stone of your choice to a piece. We have suppliers accross the globe and can obtain virtually any stone at a reasonable price. In addition, we maintain a supply of relatively rare material, including mammoth ivory, moldavite, various moonstones and serpentine, ruby and sapphire; we can cut or carve this material to fit your piece.
We also cut sealstones, whether for embossing red wax seals upon wedding invitations or mounting in signet rings.
    Repair work
We only repair items we make. Our primary reason is that some manufacturers add cadmium to their sterling silver and gold or use lead in their pewter (to make the metal move through their machines better!) We add none of this to our items. Be aware that hard wearing will remove the metal in such a way it cannot be restored. Repairs beyond our warranty will be accessed individually.
    Resizing Rings
We only resize rings we make, mostly for the reasons given above. Customer is responsible for our normal shipping charge plus a five dollar resizing fee.
    Time of making
Some of our customers want an item completed at a specific time, for instance, on a certain date (an anniversary or birthday?), or even under a full moon. Often we can accomodate such requests, but please let us know well in advance. Your order should arrive two weeks ahead of the date you have in mind. There is no charge for this service, but please contact us anyhow so we may schedule it!
    Alternate metals
If you want a piece made in yellow or white gold instead of sterling silver, please contact us for a quote. We have also made our pewter pieces in silver and gold. We do not at this time work with platinum. Expect such items to take a few weeks longer than average.
    Special designs
If you have a special design in mind, a drawing is often helpful. Under this we place requests for colored stones, crystals, carvings, etc. If you can model what you want in a polymer clay (Fimo TM, Sculpey TM, etc., but please specify) or carve in wood that would be great, but please remember:
      1. Metal is heavier than clay or wood. Make the piece as this as possible and be sure to indicate whether the back can be thinned.
      2. Some details can be lost in the process, particularly if they are not indicated to the smith. Other, often unintended details, such as fingerprints, can be exagerated.
      3. Size should be limited to 1-1/4 inch, preferably under one inch. Rings may be sculpted flat and just the top half made, a plain band can be fabricated and added later.
      4. Shrinkage occurs. Be sure to state sizes for rings, etc. Extra space must be allowed for stone settings.
      5. Stones should be of a regular size. Contact our silversmith for details on stone sizing.
      6. Chain loops and other thin extensions are often best soldered on last.
      7. We cannot be responsible for any model sent to us as some processes damage certain materials. This is not often the case, and, if indicated, we will attempt to return whatever remains of your original.
      8. We refuse to duplicate copyrighted materials.
      9. Be certain to contact us before you ship anything.
    Set my stone
Each stone is a separate treasure and deserves special consideration. Please contact our silversmith at drshinn@bellsouth.net. Scanning your treasure with a ruler or common coin will give us a better idea of what to expect. Our silversmith specializes in cabochon jewelry, including freeforms. We can produce several styles, depending on your tastes.
If you have a large number of stones to be set in various pieces, please consider whether you want all the pieces to look like one set or if each piece should be different, perhaps reflecting the person who will ultimately wear it.
I need a lot of these...
If you would like to have duplicates of your design, whether one for your significant other, one for each of your friends, or an entire line for your store, we can often accomodate. The first piece will be ordered as an individual design (although please indicate your intent up front to speed the process) and sent to you for inspection and approval. You may then order as many duplicates as you like. However, we require significant lead time for these orders; up to 90 days for pendants and up to five months for a large order of specialty rings of various sizes.
WHOLESALE ORDERS: Please contact us for discounts on bulk orders. Typically, you can expect:
     1. A 50% discount on items.
     2. A minimum order of $300.
     3. A shipping and insurance charge of $15.
     4. A delivery date of 4 to 6 weeks.
     5. Include payment with order.
E-mail or mail your request to our silversmith here.
You will receive a price quote, a time estimate, and a quote number; after which you should send us an order, placing the quote number in the "Special instructions" box.
Work does not begin until your order arrives.
